All the Responsibility, None of the Power: HIV Positive Women’s Experiences of Violence
The One in Nine Campaign has released a forty-page report, “‘We Were Never Meant to Survive’: Violence in the Lives of HIV Positive Women in South Africa,” that explores various forms of violence faced by HIV positive women from economically marginalised backgrounds. The report exposes the ways in which different kinds of violence – including violence exacerbated by poverty and the absence of a supportive family – shape almost every sphere of women’s existence and experiences, and constrain women’s rights to personal and bodily integrity and agency.
